What is #Giving Tuesday?
#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration.
Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.
One of the best ways to get involved is in your own community.
On November 28, please join your neighbors helping our neighbors through Gig Harbor Peninsula FISH.
Gig Harbor Peninsula FISH began in June 1976, incorporated August 1985, from a group of people who believed that every person in our community is our neighbor. Neighbors care and take care of one another. “Neighbor helping neighbor” has been our motto since our inception. Because we are an all volunteer organization more than 94% of donations are used to assist those in our community who request our services. Donations not provided to clients are used to pay for the food bank's rent, utilities and office expenses.
Gig Harbor Peninsula FISH is more than just a food bank. In FY2017, the Food Bank was able to feed 3,626 families, representing 9,295 members (3,219 Children). During this same time period, our Financial Aid volunteers distributed funds which helped 598 families pay rent, utilities and other expenses. The new Student Aid Program is presently helping 29 students enrolled at local colleges with books, gas and bridge tolls as long as they are keeping up their grades. At Christmas the Toy Program was able to provide 285 children with gifts, thanks to the generosity of this community.
